Hello Everyone! I have been sewing quite a lot lately and decided to do a tutorial on how I made dungaree thingys for Hollie Acorn for when she goes like hiking or walking in places such as forests.
You will need:
- Time (I used up quite a lot)
- Sewing needle
- Sewing Thread (I used black and white)
- Fabric
- Decorating things for example ribbons and beads
So this is the fabric I chose and though it frayes very easily, I decided to give it a go anyway. Along with that, I used a pink ribbon.
First of all, draw yourself a little trouser template such as the one above, remember to allow a seam allowance anywere that the spilt in the middle!
Cut that template out of fabric and sew the top and bottom extra flap over, do not sew over the sides or the split at the bottom!
Now you have to draw the front side, trace your paper template onto the fabric but leave the top seam allowance off.
You will need a bit of a seam allowance when that box thing ends, hem the edges, do not do the sides of pants or split at the bottom (This is really inportant)
Now you should have two pieces looking like this:
Place your two sewn pits so that the good side is touching your figure and the bad side is facing outwards, sew the sides together but allow a bit of room for your figure to move.
You need to remember that you have the bottom still to sew as well as the other side of the pants!
Once you have done that, sew the bottom split, try to keep as close to the edge as you can since it makes the trouser leg holes bigger (mine were a bit small)
So now your figure should look something like this, now you can decorate and add straps to your outfit.
I added pink ribbon to the trousers and used it as the straps. I also created a bag and headband, I can do a tutorial on how I did the bag if you want.
Do you like it?
Don’t worry Cutata and Nina! I have not forgotten about that rain coat tutorial that I promised you back at the start of June! It is coming before September ends hopefully, just because of what I am doing next month, you will all be sick of tutorials =) It is my birthday in around two weeks and I am SO excited since I am getting the complete Ginger Cat family (I had to pay some of it though). Next Weekend I will probably post about Hollies adventure to the Redwood Forest.

I love it Emily! You did a fantastic job! Hollie looks so cute in those dungarees! The bag and the headriboon are lovely and are a perfect match to the whole outfit! I should try to sew somthing one of these days but I´m not good at all. This kind of tutorials help a lot and encourage me to try.Thank you very much!! I love tutorials so I´ll be happy to have a look at your next coming posts.
Good to hear you´re going to get the Ginger Cat Family for your birthday!
Looking forward to see Hollie´s adventure in her new outfit.
A good tip for sewing fraying fabrics is to use a bit of glue at the ends to stoop the fraying. If you don’t like your stiches for example they are uneven, you can get a clear thread or just sew a ribbon over top with the sewing thread matchimg the colour of the ribbon. I think I will do some easy dress tutorials some time to help those people who are not happy with their sewing, I’ll see what I can do. (You need to remember that sewing skills take time and you will start off having not so pretty things). I will post some of my first sewing things for my sylvanians, I was rubbish at sewing three years ago…

Aww, the dungarees look fantastic! So pretty! Thank you for the tutorial, I’m sure I’ll give it a try :). And the bag is so pretty too! I would love to see a tutorial 🙂
I will post the bag tutorial after I do another bag since I forgot to take pictures for that bag 🙂 Glad you like the dungarees!
